How to Choose the Perfect Baseboard - The Secret of Modern Interior Design
Baseboards are small details that we often don't pay attention to, but they are precisely what gives the interior a finished look. Today we will talk about two main types: hidden and surface mount baseboards, and we will share what types exist.
Hidden or Surface Mount?
Hidden mount baseboards - this is the favorite of modern design. They are mounted in a recessed profile in the wall and create a "floating wall" effect. Ideal for minimalist and ultra-modern interiors.
Surface mount baseboards - a classic and most common option. Simply attached to the wall and more accessible both in price and ease of installation. An excellent choice for any style interior.
Four Main Materials
1. Wood Baseboards
Wood - a classic that never goes out of fashion. Natural, long-lasting and prestigious. Can be repainted and restored. The downside? High price and maintenance requirements. Doesn't like moisture, so we don't recommend it for bathrooms.
2. MDF Baseboards
The golden mean in terms of price and quality. Stable, easy to install and varied in design. Often covered with wood imitation, which looks visually excellent. The standard version is not waterproof, but special varieties also exist.
3. Plastic (PVC) Baseboards
An economical and practical choice. 100% waterproof, so it's excellent for bathrooms and kitchens. Easy to clean and often has a built-in cable channel. The downside - less prestigious appearance and may yellow over time.
4. Polyurethane Baseboards
Unique in its flexibility - can follow even curved walls! Lightweight, waterproof and excellent for classic interiors where ornaments are needed. Can be painted. The downside? Above average price.
How to Choose?
If you're doing a bathroom or kitchen - choose PVC. If you have a classic interior - wood or polyurethane is ideal. For modern style, MDF is an excellent option, and if you're a minimalism lover - hidden mount is your choice.
Remember
Baseboards are the detail that either elevates or diminishes the impression of the entire renovation. Therefore, their selection should be approached as seriously as choosing flooring or wall covering!
